In 1958 a Dutch surgeon, Doctor Boerema, developed the hyperbaric oxygen tank. The first system was used in the AMC, a hospital in Amsterdam. Based on the principles of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a formulation has been developed that is successfully capable of incorporating stabilized active oxygen into commercial products.

Research over the past 10 years has led to the development of a mechanism whereby anionic (safe) oxygen atoms are liberated from a donor molecule in a controlled and stabilized manner (O-) instead of the release of harmful radical oxygen atoms (O.) . This technology is patented and forms the basis of the O7 active® products.
